About the Role
As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer on the Slideshare Team, you will design, build, and improve the features and systems that power Slideshare’s user experiences. On the backend, you’ll primarily work with Ruby on Rails, and on the frontend you’ll use modern web technologies such as Next.js, React.js, JavaScript, CSS, and GraphQL, while also collaborating on innovative projects that involve Machine Learning (ML) and Large Language Models (LLMs)
What You’ll Do
- Contribute to technical decisions across the full stack, with a focus on frontend architecture and a strong understanding of backend systems built in Ruby on Rails.
- Design, build, and ship new user-facing features using Next.js, React.js, TypeScript/JavaScript, CSS, and GraphQL, ensuring performance, accessibility, and maintainability.
- Integrate backend Rails services with modern frontend frameworks to deliver cohesive, high-quality experiences across Slideshare.
- Collaborate with machine learning teams to incorporate ML models and LLM-driven features into the product, contributing to enhanced content understanding and AI-powered user workflows.
- Work closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to deliver features that meet user and business needs.
- Provide guidance to other engineers through code reviews, architectural discussions, and knowledge sharing, helping reinforce best practices and engineering excellence.
- Improve the reliability, performance, and observability of Slideshare’s applications through thoughtful use of logging, metrics, and monitoring tools.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, and automation to reduce friction and improve developer productivity.
- Implement performance optimizations across both frontend (Next.js/React) and backend (Rails), addressing scaling challenges for high-traffic, globally distributed users.
We’re Looking for Someone With
- 8+ years of professional software development experience, with strong full-stack capabilities and deep experience in modern web technologies.
- Expertise in frontend engineering JavaScript, React.js, Next.js, ES6+, CSS, and building performant, user-focused interfaces.
- Solid backend engineering skills, with strong working knowledge of Ruby on Rails including building REST/GraphQL APIs, data models, and server-side business logic.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, including deploying and operating applications using services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, ElastiCache, or CloudWatch.
- Strong understanding of observability practices including logging, metrics, dashboards, and alerting with hands-on experience using tools such as Datadog and Sentry to diagnose and improve production issues.
- Experience optimizing performance end-to-end, including frontend rendering performance, caching strategies, asset delivery, and backend query/response efficiency.
- Ability to contribute to architectural discussions and make informed technical decisions while collaborating closely with staff engineers and cross-functional partners.
- Strong sense of ownership, prioritization, and attention to detail, with a track record of shipping high-quality work in a fast-moving environment.
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable collaborating in a remote-first team and explaining technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
At Scribd, Inc., your base pay is one part of your total compensation package and is determined within a range. Our pay ranges are based on the local cost of labor benchmarks for each specific role, level, and geographic location. San Francisco is our highest geographic market in the United States.
In the state of California, the reasonably expected salary range is between $146,000 [minimum salary in our lowest geographic market within California] to $228,000 [maximum salary in our highest geographic market within California].
In the United States, outside of California, the reasonably expected salary range is between $120,000 [minimum salary in our lowest US geographic market outside of California] to $216,000 [maximum salary in our highest US geographic market outside of California].
In Canada, the reasonably expected salary range is between $152,500 CAD[minimum salary in our lowest geographic market] to $194,000 CAD[maximum salary in our highest geographic market].

The salary range listed is for the level at which this job has been scoped. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for a competitive equity ownership, and a comprehensive and generous benefits package.
