About the job

The Viya 3.5 Security team is looking for a Software Developer to be a key contributor to securing SAS' Viya 3.5 customer offerings. Successful candidates will partner within SAS helping to solve complex technical problems anywhere in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) from architecture and design to deployment and operations. This role will require technical breadth with a strong background in the Spring Boot framework to address concerns across SAS' entire product portfolio.

As a Software Developer, you will

Participate in architecture and implementation discussions and actively engage in agile rituals including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives

Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including product management, QA, DevOps, and fellow developers to deliver secure, high-quality software solutions for SAS' entire product portfolio

Design and develop security features and enhancements for the Viya 3.5 platform, ensuring robust protection of customer data and systems

Participate in project scoping and tracking using the Agile methodology in a continuous delivery environment

Provide guidance to junior team members on technical challenges and best practices

Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization's secure software development goals.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

5+ years of professional software development experience

Strong proficiency in Java and object-oriented programming principles

Hands-on experience with the Spring Boot framework in a microservice architecture

Experience with Gradle for build automation and dependency management

Demonstrated knowledge of secure software development practices including threat modeling, secure coding standards, and vulnerability remediation

Strong understanding of software development tools, methodologies (Agile/Scrum), and design principles

Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Additional competencies, knowledge and skills

Communication: Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Technology Savvy: Stay current with emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices, applying this knowledge to strengthen our platforms

Collaboration: Ability to work independently as part of a team while mentoring younger team members

Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and scripting languages like Python

Experience with security scanning tools (e.g., Snyk, Prisma, Klocwork, ZAP)

Understanding of cybersecurity principles including FIPS compliance, TLS/SSL protocols, certificate and private key infrastructure, and cryptographic ciphers

Familiarity with Go

Understanding of authentication and authorization frameworks (OAuth, SAML, LDAP)

Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and test-driven development
