Position Summary

The Sonographer III provides high‑quality diagnostic sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention. This role serves as a clinical and technical leader within the imaging team, supporting workflow coordination, quality control, staff development, and collaboration with Radiologists and Imaging Services leadership while delivering exceptional patient‑centered care.

Essential Functions

Clinical & Technical Excellence

  • Perform diagnostic sonographic examinations in collaboration with Radiologists
  • Assess image quality, ensuring proper annotation, patient identification, and complete anatomic coverage
  • Utilize advanced ultrasound techniques including Doppler, 3D/4D, and pediatric sonography
  • Perform and assist with invasive procedures (e.g., biopsies, amniocentesis, thoracentesis, breast procedures)
  • Apply professional judgment and maintain a demeanor consistent with high‑quality patient care
  • Administer medical aid as required in emergency situations

Patient Care & Safety

  • Assess patient condition, age‑specific needs, and clinical history
  • Provide clear instructions to achieve patient cooperation and optimal exam results
  • Ensure proper patient identification and accurate documentation
  • Apply standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross‑contamination
  • Ensure safety of patients, visitors, and team members

Leadership, Workflow & Quality

  • Act as sonography section leader, representing ultrasound services to the Imaging Services Manager
  • Support daily workflow including patient flow, staffing assignments, supply ordering, and issue resolution
  • Plan and prioritize exam scheduling to meet patient and physician needs
  • Participate in quality control activities and departmental quality improvement initiatives
  • Assist leadership in accountability for image quality, documentation accuracy, and charge management
  • Orient, precept, and assist in training new and student sonographers
  • Participate in committees and departmental projects

Compliance & Professional Standards

  • Comply with all applicable state and federal regulations
  • Adhere to Orlando Health mission, policies, and commitment to excellence
  • Utilize corporate radiology and imaging computer systems accurately and effectively
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other regulatory standards

Education & Training

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited school of sonography
  • Meets American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) eligibility guidelines [OH

Licensure & Certification

Required

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through ARDMS
  • Current BLS / Healthcare Provider certification
  • Maintains RDMS physics registry and three ARDMS specialty registries

Experience

Required

  • Minimum two (2) years of professional sonography experience
  • Knowledge of routine and invasive ultrasound procedures, including biopsies, amniocentesis, thoracentesis, breast cyst aspiration, and localization
  • Experience with Doppler, 3D/4D, and pediatric sonography
