Job Description
General Functions
Performs specialized work in the installation of various types of traffic signs and pavement marking materials.
Distinguishing Characteristics of Work
This is entry level work of a semi-skilled nature consisting of the installation of traffic signs and pavement markings on roadways for traffic control.
The position can be assigned to a crew or work independently depending on the work task and supervised by a Foreman.
Performance is evaluated based on the achievement of desired results.
Representative Duties /Assignments
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties; it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
Assists Foreman in layout of pavement marking for new work.
- May assist with the operation of a thermoplastic handliner.
- Lays down cold plastic markings by hand or with an applicator.
- Assists in the loading and unloading of pavement marking materials, sometimes requiring the use of a forklift.
- Duties require occasionally moving, lifting, pushing or pulling equipment or supplies up to 60 pounds.
- Assists in the maintenance and repair of thermoplastic pavement marking equipment.
- Installs raised pavement markers in the road.
- Assist with sign fabrication in the sign shop.
- Assemble and install traffic signs.
- Uses hand power tools to remove or install sign posts.
- Uses hand or power tools to remove or install traffic signs.
- Read plans, sketches or maps to determine where and what types of signs and/or pavement markings must be placed.
- Basic computer skills to include utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, electronic work order system and email software.
- Maintains an inventory of standard signs and posts on truck for emergency installation.
- Periodically inspects traffic signs in assigned district to identify those that may need to be replaced or maintained.
- Must be available for overtime for emergency response as directed by the Foreman or Management.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Must obtain and maintain the State Maintenance of Traffic training within three (3) months of hire.
Must possess and maintain the appropriate valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for the type of vehicle operated within six (6) months of hire.
Must obtain certification as a Level I Signs and Pavement Markings Technician by the International Municipal Signal Association within 12 months of hire.
Preferences
Experience in basic construction, electrical, basic computer system operations, Retro reflectometer, Electronic Multimeter, and Volt/Ohm meter.
Ability to read and interpret schematics and/or blueprints.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Basic computer skills to include utilizing word processing, spreadsheet and email software.

Salary Information
Pay Grade: 010 - From $18.10 to $22.97
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
