Medical Assistant – Heavy Referrals Experience Required

We are seeking a professional, detail-oriented Medical Assistant to support our geriatric practice specializing in Medicare Risk. This position requires someone who is highly organized, proactive, and experienced in managing referrals from start to finish. You will serve as a key point of contact for our patients, ensuring timely follow-up and exceptional support across both clinical and administrative needs.
The ideal candidate is compassionate, an excellent communicator, and able to maintain accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment. Minimum 2+ years of referral coordination experience is required.
Key Responsibilities
Manage heavy referral volume: processing, tracking, coordinating, and completing all referrals.
Answer phones, take messages, and respond to patient questions promptly and professionally.
Conduct follow-ups with patients, providers, and external offices regarding referrals, testing, and care plans.
Complete procedure approvals and authorizations accurately and on time.
Verify patient information through interviewing patients, documenting medical history, and confirming visit purpose.
Prepare patients for exams by taking vitals and summarizing history for the physician.
Maintain accurate documentation, diagnostic coding, and confidentiality compliance.
Schedule procedures or surgeries and prepare all necessary paperwork.
Assist physicians with in-office procedures as needed.
Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.
Manage supply inventory and basic equipment troubleshooting.
Participate in ongoing training to maintain job knowledge and compliance requirements.
Complete assigned HEDIS tasks and follow up with patients on required services.
Support the practice by staying organized, prioritizing tasks, and maintaining efficient workflow.
Qualifications
Medical Assistant experience – Required
2+ years of strong referrals and authorizations experience – Required
Excellent communication, follow-up, and multitasking skills
Highly organized with the ability to meet deadlines
Experience with geriatric patients preferred
Knowledge of Medicare Risk or HEDIS is a plus
